Urban Challenge Update
Jason is being kind enough to let me use his laptop briefly to hop online so I figured I’d take this opportunity to point you to some interesting links. First off, my team is posting videos, pictures, and blog posts over on our official blog. There is some great content in there and I defenitely reccomend checking it out. DARPA updates their site every now again when teams are officially...
There are now six teams qualified and twelve eliminated of the 35 invited to the NQE.
We found out unofficially a while ago but we are now officially qualified and six teams are eliminated.
Boss just had a flat out amazing run. Everyone on the team is ecstatic.
Just received a call that we had a ‘flawless victory’ on our first NQE (National Qualification Event) run. On the tricky course no less.
Urban Challenge
Tomorrow, I’ll be driving down to Victorville, CA to attend the DARPA Urban Challenge with my old team, Tartan Racing . (Damn that first picture is sexy.) Since I don’t have a laptop, that means there will most likely be no normal updates to the site. So that the site doesn’t just go dark for nine days, and because I think it might be neat, I’ll be trying to post ...
Re: Fake Internet Names
In response to Marco: I’d just like to say that I wasn’t trying to ‘hide’ my identity which could have been easily found if you clicked any of my Flickr photos or several other links. Why I don’t publicize my identity (yet) is that I wasn’t sure what this site would become and wasn’t sure if I wanted it popping up in search results for several reasons. ...
Re: Another new idea for blog comments
Marco: The longer the comment, the smaller its font. Now that’s funny. The only problem I have with that is you’re assuming long comments are bad. Would be more complicated but maybe some type of reputation system where font size is based on that?
Re: New idea for blog comments
Marco: I thought of that. Here are some ideas: - No more than 5 words, split by punctuation, numbers, and spaces. - No more than 50 non-space characters. - No single word longer than 16 characters. - Maximum of 1 or 2 of the words not being in a standard dictionary. Of course, this only works well for English like this. Of the above four things, I would think the biggest issue is the dictionary...
Just a heads up, if you see random pictures appearing or disappearing, I’m just testing out some different methods of posting photos directly from my phone in preparation for next week. I’ll explain later.

– Death by Harry Potter Interesting read about how the most popular media, not just Harry Potter, affects future generations of media leaving the uninitiated behind.
New idea for blog comments
Marco asks: What if they were limited to 5 words? NotABadIdeaButTheObviousAndObnoxiousAnswerIsThatYouWouldGetCommentsLikeThis. TheAnswerToThatWouldOfCourseBeToLimitTheNumberOfCharacters. ButThenYouWouldPropogateTextingJargonToLimitCharactersAndSeriouslyWhoWantsThat? AlsoThereAlwaysTimesWhenExtraCharactersWouldBeNeededSayForAUrl. I know it’s been online for a while, but if you still haven’t seen the trailer for Be Kind Rewind, you should do so now. While you’re in the movie trailer mood, check out the new trailers for I Am Legend here or here for HD.

Zero Punctuation: The Orange Box
There’s a bunch of buzz about Vimeo’s new HD support and I do have to agree it’s pretty nice. I just have two quick questions though. First off, am I the only one who has to constantly move my mouse over the video (embedded or full screen) in order to keep it playing? If I don’t, it pauses after a couple seconds. Second, Divx Stage 6 has been doing streaming HD for a...
