Tumblr Dashboard Theme →
Talby made a Tumblr theme to look like the Tumblr Dashboard. It’s oddly disorienting seeing the dashboard icons on a different site. To Talby: You might want to make the icons link to the permalink as well. And do you only have one page of content or did you forget the next button?

Simple but Effective Noise Removal in Photoshop →
I’m mostly just posting this so I can find it again easily. It’s worked well for me.
Oh my god I’m running out of time!

Abortion declines worldwide, and falls most where... →
“Abortion rates fell most significantly in Eastern Europe, a trend that corresponds with substantially increased contraceptive use in the region.” SHOCKING! “The lowest abortion rate in the world in 2003 was for Western Europe (12 per 1,000 women aged 15–44), where contraceptive services and use are widespread and safe abortion is easily accessible and legal under broad grounds....
Death of indicted monk ruled suicide →
This is a pretty short article it’s pretty bizzare. The Texas monk killed himself with “large amounts of alcohol, painkillers and other prescription drugs” because he “faced trial for organized crime and child sex abuse charges.”
I (unfortunatly) understand the child sex abuse charge but organized crime? I don’t know but the abuse was actually against other...

Verizon opens up, will support any device, any app... →
A very surprising move for Verizon who recently in September sued the FCC to remove open access rules from the upcoming 700MHz spectrum auction. This is pretty awesome if they live up to their promises though because you’ll see ridiculous homebrew internet enabled devices (possibly using Android).

Judge tells record labels to cough up download... →
marco asks “If SafeNet was authorized by the RIAA to download those songs, have any crimes actually taken place?” Well, yes, because the illegal part wasn’t that it was actually downloaded but that the woman was sharing the songs. This is to more than just Marco as this current case could mark a huge turning point and it’s not very well understood. The debate going in in...
Mayor resigns, reveals false identity he created... →
Centerton, Arkansas mayor Ken Williams resigned last week after, er, an injection of “truth serum” made him realize that he was, um, brainwashed by satanists in the 1970s. Apparently, Williams also remembered that he is actually Don LaRose, a former preacher in Indiana who was married with two kids. In 1980, he ran away and changed his identity to escape the unspecified satanists....
Sunday School for Atheists →
While the idea just sounds silly at first, it actually makes sense and I think it’s a great idea. Read the article before dismissing it.
Then there was one: US now alone as Kyoto holdout →
Supporters of the Kyoto Protocol were gleeful on Saturday after Australian elections left the United States in the wilderness as the only major economy to boycott the UN’s climate pact.
Happy Thanksgiving to those in the US.
Bill Nye Booed by Bible Believers for Pointing out... →
The Emmy-winning scientist angered a few audience members when he criticized literal interpretation of the biblical verse Genesis 1:16, which reads: “God made two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.”
I had missed this 2003 Daily Show clip until now but it’s probably one of the funniest I’ve ever seen.
Although individuals from all faiths are welcome to worship with us at Hyde Park...
– Church rejects interfaith service on its property “Hyde Park Baptist says it didn’t realize Muslims were leading annual Thanksgiving event.” In the end, leaders at Congregation Beth Israel, Austin’s largest synagogue, offered to host the celebration.
Password limits and storing hashes
I have an American Express card, and this drives me nuts. I have to use a different password that I don’t use anywhere else and (in my opinion) isn’t very secure at all. — marco My solution is use a similar password but use a different username.
Password limits and storing hashes
Nicklog and marco are complaining about websites storing passwords and weak password requirements like Plaxo, apparently an address book site, which only allows you to create a password that is between 6 and 10 characters long. Obviously neither of you have an American Express because while I don’t think they store your password, they have a very weak password requirement, especially for a...
Minor Tumblr Quibbles
Hey Marco, on the dashboard, can we get the “My Tumblelog” link moved to the top of the account menu? At least personally, I use that link far more often than any other link in that menu, especially after editing or creating a post. Oh, and since I mentioned that, how about an option to go to that post after editing or creating it instead of the dashboard? Also, while I’m...
