There’s a bunch of buzz about Vimeo’s new HD support and I do have to agree it’s pretty nice. I just have two quick questions though. First off, am I the only one who has to constantly move my mouse over the video (embedded or full screen) in order to keep it playing? If I don’t, it pauses after a couple seconds.
Second, Divx Stage 6 has been doing streaming HD for a while now so why is Vimeo’s solution better? I’m not being rhetorical here, I’m seriously wondering. Putting aside the community for a moment, the only things I see is that Stage 6 requires videos be in Divx format and it requires a separate plugin thing other than Flash. On Firefox at least (I never tried it in IE), the second point is moot since it installs in seconds and doesn’t even need a browser restart. On the other side, Stage 6 doesn’t seem to have a resolution limit (I see a bunch of 1080p videos) and allows you to download videos directly.
