iPhone?
Ok, I’m pretty confused at this point over what the iPhone 3G will actually cost. The impression I’ve gotten so far is that the $199/$299 price tag is if you’re eligible for an upgrade or a new customer (meaning no equipment upgrade discount for existing customers out of contract like every other phone). Also, the data plan is now $30 a month and doesn’t include any text messages. This seems reliable since it would just be using the “PDA Personal” data plan. So add another $5 a month for 200 messages. So compared to the old iPhone you save $200 up front but end up paying $15 more a month which means you’re paying more after only a year. How is this cheaper?
If this information is correct, which it seems to be, there’s no way I’m getting an iPhone. At this point, the only way I’d consider it is if Apple/AT&T allowed the equipment discounts and I could use my corporate discount on the whole voice and data plan as well. (Apparently the old iPhone didn’t even allow discounts on the voice only part.) </rant>
